Why Stock Events Matter for Congressional Trading

Earnings season, dividend announcements and stock splits are some of the most significant recurring events in the stock market. Share prices can swing dramatically when a company reports results that beat or miss expectations, declares an unexpected dividend, or announces a split. For investors who track congressional trading, the question has always been: are politicians trading ahead of these high-impact events?

Until now, answering that question required manually cross-referencing event calendars from other platforms with our filing data. That changes today.

We're launching the Stock Event Calendar, a purpose-built feature that connects upcoming earnings dates, dividends and splits with congressional trading activity, giving you a clear view of who's trading what, and when it matters most.

The Calendar Pages

A Weekly View of What's Coming

The new calendar provides a clean, week-by-week view of upcoming events for stocks that appear in congressional financial disclosures. Three dedicated views let you focus on the event type you care about:

Switch between event types using the filter bar at the top of any calendar page.

What you'll see for each event:

  • Ticker and company name with a direct link to the stock page
  • Event date so you know exactly when the announcement is expected
  • Key metrics — EPS estimate for earnings, amount and yield for dividends, ratio for splits
  • Sector for quick context on what industry the company operates in
  • Politician activity indicator showing whether any tracked politicians have recently traded the stock

Navigate between weeks using the arrow buttons, or jump forward to the next week with activity. The calendar focuses on the stocks that matter, those that appear in congressional filings, rather than overwhelming you with thousands of events.

Three Ways to Filter

Each calendar view supports three filtering modes to help you focus:

  1. All tracked stocks: Every stock that any tracked politician has traded, with upcoming event dates
  2. My stock watchlist: Only show events for stocks you've added to your watchlist
  3. My politician watchlist: Only show events for stocks traded by politicians you're following

Switch between views instantly using the tab bar at the top of the page.

Politician Trade Overlay (Pro)

The Signal in the Noise

This is where the calendar becomes genuinely unique. No other platform connects congressional trading activity with upcoming stock events in this way.

For each event, you can see whether tracked politicians have traded the stock in the weeks leading up to the announcement. A small badge next to the ticker tells you at a glance whether there's activity worth investigating.

Pro members can expand any event to see the full detail:

  • Which politician made the trade
  • Transaction type (purchase or sale)
  • Trade amount range as disclosed in the filing
  • Days before the event the trade was executed
  • Direct link to the politician's profile for further investigation

A congressman buying call options on a stock two weeks before a strong earnings beat, or loading up on shares ahead of a dividend record date, is exactly the kind of pattern our users want to spot. The calendar surfaces these connections automatically.

Free users can see that politician activity exists for a given stock, with a prompt to upgrade for the full breakdown.

Events on Every Stock Page

Historical Event Data and Chart Annotations

The calendar isn't just a standalone feature. We've integrated event data directly into every stock page on the platform.

New Events Section:

Each stock page now features a dedicated events section showing:

  • Next expected earnings date with the fiscal quarter label
  • EPS and revenue estimates for the upcoming report
  • Historical earnings with actual vs. estimated figures and surprise percentages
  • Upcoming dividends with amounts, yields, and payment dates
  • Stock splits with ratios and effective dates
  • Politician trades near events, the same Pro overlay available on the calendar

Chart Annotations:

Events now appear as annotations on stock charts. Toggle the event overlays to see vertical markers on historical dates, with labels showing:

  • The fiscal quarter (e.g. "Q4 2025") for earnings
  • Whether the company beat or missed expectations (e.g. "Beat +12.3%")
  • Dividend amounts and ex-dividend dates
  • Split ratios
  • Whether an event is still upcoming

Combined with the existing transaction annotations, you can now see the full picture on a single chart: when politicians traded, and when key corporate events occurred. The proximity between the two tells a story.

Toggle preferences are saved so they persist as you navigate between stock pages.

What This Means for You

A New Way to Research Congressional Trading

The Stock Event Calendar gives you a new lens on congressional trading. Instead of passively browsing filings as they come in, you can now look ahead to upcoming high-impact events and see whether politicians have been positioning themselves.

Some questions you can now answer:

  • Which upcoming earnings events have seen the most congressional trading activity?
  • Did a politician buy a stock shortly before a strong earnings beat?
  • Are politicians buying ahead of dividend record dates?
  • Has anyone traded around a stock split announcement?
  • Are there patterns in how frequently politicians trade ahead of key events?
  • Which stocks on my watchlist have events coming up this week?

Event data is updated daily, covering nearly 1,000 stocks that appear in congressional filings. Whether you check in every morning or once a week, the calendar is always current.
