How to Track Politicians' Stock Trades

Members of the US Congress must report many of their stock trades. These reports are public, but they are not live. A trade may not appear until several weeks after it happened.
Pelosi Tracker brings the reports together so you can search by politician, filing or stock. This guide shows you where to start and what the numbers mean.
You can browse the public data without an account. An account is only needed for personal features such as a watchlist and alerts.
TL;DR
- Start in the politicians directory if you want to follow a person.
- Open filings when you want to read the reported trades in a disclosure.
- Use stocks to see which politicians have disclosed trades in a company.
- Treat a politician portfolio as a strategy that follows their trades, not as their account.
- Turn on notification settings if you want alerts when new filings become public.
Why the trades are public
The STOCK Act requires members of Congress to disclose many financial transactions. In most cases, a trade must be reported within 45 days.
That deadline matters. A filing published today may describe a trade from several weeks ago. An alert means the disclosure is new, not that the trade happened today.
These disclosures are called Periodic Transaction Reports. They are public records, not brokerage statements.
The reports use amount ranges. For example, a filing may report a value of $15,001 to $50,000. It does not give an exact amount or share count.
How to follow a politician
- Open the politicians directory.
- Search for a name or state. You can also filter by party.
- Open a profile to see the politician's recent disclosed trades. Each row shows the date, ticker and an estimated amount.
- Select a ticker to open its stock page.
- Add the politician to your watchlist if you want to find them again quickly.
A profile may also show estimated holdings and performance when enough filing data is available. These figures are reconstructed from public reports. They do not come from the politician's brokerage account.
Some politicians also have a dedicated portfolio page. That page is a trading strategy that follows their disclosed trades, with Pelosi Tracker's rules applied. It is not their portfolio. It can show estimated holdings, weights and performance for the strategy. If a portfolio is marked as coming soon, that strategy is not live yet.
Start with Nancy Pelosi's profile, or compare it with the Nancy Pelosi portfolio to see the difference. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is another House example. Shelley Moore Capito shows the Senate coverage as it expands.

How to check the filing
Use the filings archive when you want the report behind a disclosed trade.
House reports come from the House Clerk's disclosure system. Senate reports come from the Senate's electronic filing system. We turn both sources into searchable pages.
The archive shows:
- who filed the report
- the type of filing
- when it was filed
- how many trades it contains
Open a filing to see each ticker, transaction date, trade type and reported amount range. Comparing the transaction date with the filing date shows how long the disclosure took to become public.
Most of our current coverage comes from House filings. Senate coverage is expanding, so some Senate profiles may have less data. A short or empty profile does not prove that a politician has never traded.
New reports usually appear in Pelosi Tracker within hours of becoming available on the official system. This is separate from the reporting delay between the trade and the filing.

How to follow a stock
- Open stocks to browse recently disclosed trades.
- Search for a company or ticker, or filter the list by politician.
- Select the stock to see which politicians disclosed trades in it.
- Compare the transaction date, filing date and reported amount range.
- Add the stock to your watchlist if you want to follow it.
The amount shown is the range from the disclosure, not the price or value of an exchange order.
What a politician portfolio is
A politician portfolio is not that politician's portfolio. It is a trading strategy that follows their disclosed trades, with Pelosi Tracker's rules applied.
Those rules decide what the strategy holds and in what size. The holdings, weights and performance on the page belong to that strategy. They are not a reconstruction of the politician's brokerage account.
Keep the limits in mind:
- Values are estimates. Filings give ranges, not exact amounts. We use the midpoint of each range when a calculation needs one value.
- Reports arrive late. A trade can be several weeks old when it becomes public.
- Coverage can have gaps. Reports may be missing, delayed or amended.
- Some portfolios follow a group. The page title tells you whether the strategy follows one politician or several. A group portfolio does not mean those people share an account.

Get alerts when new filings land
You can receive an alert when a new filing becomes public:
- Sign in, or create an account.
- Add a politician or stock to your watchlist.
- Turn on alerts in notification settings.
An alert can tell you whether it arrived because you follow the politician or because the filing contains a stock on your watchlist. Open the alert to read the filing and see every reported trade.
Remember that the alert is about a new filing. The trade itself may have happened several weeks earlier.
What this data cannot tell you
Pelosi Tracker is for reading public congressional disclosures. It is not a brokerage, a copy-trading product, or an ETF.
The data cannot show a live brokerage balance or the exact number of shares held. Official reports can also be late, amended or incorrect.
Check the original filing before relying on a figure. Pelosi Tracker links back to the public record where one is available.
Nothing here is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. A past disclosed trade is not a recommendation to buy or sell.
The terms of service explain these limits in more detail.
